Making Contact: A Group Process for Women
Ongoing on Sundays, 10-1 May 31, June 25, July 23, August 20, September 17
$30 per group
In Santa Fe, at a Private Sacred Space (please call or email for directions)
This group is for women only. We will explore a feminine approach to connecting. Through slowing down and deeply listening to self and others we will have time to access our authenticity and relate from that place. Though this is not intended to be a skills workshop, we will be working with the principles of contact improvisational dance as a way to explore movement and connection as metaphor. Touch is part of this movement practice. We will also explore authentic movement.
This is a therapy group. The long-term vision is to have a core group of women who meet regularly and grow and deepen together in this process of discovery.
Some of what you will experience is: maintaining dual awareness (internal and external), leading and following, following a point of contact, weight sharing, authentic relating, witnessing and being witnessed, and getting what you want from the dance. You will access parts of self that you may not be acquainted with yet. You will experience safe, non-sexual intimacy. Journaling and verbal sharing in circle will help integrate the non-verbal processes.
Please contact Amina if you are interested in joining.

Through Movement, Touch and Art:
You will come into deeper contact with your body and your authentic self.
In a playful, safe, and creative space, you will explore your relational dynamics and have the opportunity to try on new ways of relating, from a more embodied and present state of being.
No experience in dance or art is required.
We are wounded in relationship and it is in relationship that we can heal.
Maintaining a state of dual awareness, or that of being aware of one’s internal experience at the same time as holding awareness of the external environment, will be the foundation for this work.
Connected movement with self and others will break through the pattern of isolation and encourage trust and intimacy. Participants will give and receive support, take risks, improvise, initiate and complete interactions. The “dance” becomes the metaphor for life and through it more of life can be experienced.
Authentic movement will be a part of the experience. It will provide another avenue for the body, mind and spirit to express itself and move to greater wholeness.
Journaling and art making will be an element that will provide time and space for internal processing.
Verbal sharing will help integrate the non-verbal/right brain experiences with the more linear, left brain.
“If you want to get to a new place, you can’t know where you are going.” (Steve Paxton)
